Meet Your Baker

Hi! I'm Sue, owner and chief baker at Rest & Rise. I am a mother, veteran, gardener, third-culture kid, crafter, and advocate of deep, caring community. My love for baking goes back as far as I can remember. My first "bakery" business was 30+ years ago; making english muffins and cinnamon rolls with my sister to sell at my parents office. Since then, I have always managed to find some way or another to create in the kitchen.
I have many years of experience as a baker, both in professional food establishments and in my own kitchen for family and friends. I love working with different doughs, methods, and ingredients to see what beautiful and delicious things I can create from them. One of my favorite things is playing with combinations of herbs, veggies, and fruit in my recipes.
So, welcome to Rest & Rise Bakery, where we offer an abundance of warm bread and warm hearts to anyone who kneads them. (Baking puns... I can't resist. ) It is truly a dream come true to be able to share this passion with all of you in the community!

Our Breads and Ingredients
We believe that creating our baked goods with real, whole-food ingredients makes better tasting products that are better for our bodies. We source as many of our ingredients as possible fresh from our local community and businesses. What we can't source locally, we still make sure is top quality. So, though our breads and baked goods don't last on the counter as long as store bought, you can feel good about what you are putting into your body when you buy from Rest & Rise Bakery. We think that is a pretty good trade-off!
